It's ok to want more Harry Potter!

Sadly, the Harry Potter series is done, and it may be breaking your heart. I know that when I closed "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows", my first thought was "what do I have to look forward to next year? There won't be another publication." But don't worry, fellow young adult fantasy lovers - there are plenty of great series out there that will take your mind off Harry, Ron, Hermione and the rest of the gang (at least temporarily). My suggestions:

Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson and the Olympians series:
1. The Lighting Thief
2. The Sea of Monsters
3. The Titan's Curse
4. The Battle of the Labyrinth
5. The Last Olympian

Cornelia Funke's Inkheart Trilogy
1. Inkheart
2. Inkspell
3. Inkdeath

Christopher Paolini's Inheritance Cycle series
1. Eragon
2. Eldest
3. Brisingr

Angie Sage's Septimus Heap series
1. Magyk
2. Flyte
3. Physik
4. Queste
5. Syren

New Years Resolutions made Easy!

So the other day I was checking out some government websites (you never know when they will come in handy for research questions) and stumbled upon www.mypyramid.gov. This website is operated by the US Department of Agriculture and is it informative and fun! Besides explaining the food pyramid and healthy eating, there are also different interactive tools you can use to record your meals and fitness. My favorite link is the MyPyramid Menu Planner - you can actually plan out your daily meals and find out how well it is fulfilling the pyramid. Balanced nutrition doesn't get any easier that that!!!

Book Review - "The Distant Hours"

"The Distant Hours" by Kate Morton

A letter posted in 1941 finally reaches its destination in 1992 with powerful repercussions for Edie Burchill, a London book editor, in this enthralling romantic thriller from Australian author Morton (The Forgotten Garden). At crumbling Milderhurst Castle live elderly twins Persephone and Seraphina and their younger half-sister, Juniper, the three eccentric spinster daughters of the late Raymond Blythe, author of The True History of the Mud Man, a children's classic Edie adores. Juniper addressed the letter to Meredith, Edie's mother, then a young teen evacuated to Milderhurst during the Blitz. Edie, who's later invited to write an introduction to a reprint of Raymond's masterpiece, visits the seedily alluring castle in search of answers. Why was her mother so shattered by the contents of a letter sent 51 years earlier? And what happened to soldier Thomas Cavill, Juniper's long-missing fiancé and Meredith's former teacher? Despite the many competing narratives, the answers will stun readers. -Publishers Weekly
