You may or may not have been aware, but the library was closed this past Friday. The reason? Long-due staff training. And I'm not talking about learning how to issue a library card or shelf a book. No, I'm talking about safety training.
Over the past few years we've had several staff and policy changes, and one thing we wanted to make sure was clear to all was safety and security of the library, patrons, and ourselves. So we closed the library for a day, yet still came to work. However, instead of checking out your books and answering reference questions, we learned CPR, determined and practiced emergency routes for disasters, and met with the local fire fighters and police to talk about safety. We feel prepared should problems or events arise in our library that require quick thinking and immediate action. We take your safety seriously.
